The Books of Waiting. Book Three: What was at the Mountain?

The Books of Waiting began from performative actions based on personal memories recorded between 2010 and 2012. A narrative developed from the embodiment exploration of such memories as performativities. Organized in chapters, the artwork includes texts from the artist as responses interspersed with letters from her mother—which she found after her sudden death in 1999.

The performativities engaged the mimetic imagination from visceral memories. The recordings took place in non-controlled spaces in Canada and the United States. The Books of Waiting express dimensions—from deep within the body—of state violence's intangible impacts.

The actions took place in the Laurentian region of Québec, Canada. The performativities in Book Three are prompted by the artist's impressions on the ambush story told by her mother when she was four years old. Furthermore, the artist discovers from within her performative practice that she approached the work from the mimetic imagination as her method: a mind-emotion activity that viscerally engages the body and the senses to access and make meaning of memories that elude cognitive language.
